Kansas City player raises fist during anthem of NFL opener
Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Marcus Peters raised his fist on Sunday during a performance of the U.S. national anthem, apparently in solidarity with other National Football League players trying to draw attention to racial inequality. San Francisco 49ers backup quarterback Colin Kaepernick began the protests against injustice and police brutality when he refused to stand for "The Star-Spangled Banner" during preseason games, at first choosing to sit on the bench and then later kneeling on one knee in a gesture that has divided fans. Other players have followed suit, including Denver Broncos linebacker Brandon Marshall ahead of Thursday's season opening win against the Carolina Panthers.

Yao takes friendly shot at Shaq at Hall of Fame induction
(Reuters) – Yao Ming, who inspired a generation of NBA fans in his native China, wistfully acknowledged a career that "ended too soon" as he was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame on Friday. The towering seven foot, six inch (229 cm) center was joined in the class of 2016 by the likes of center Shaquille O'Neal and guard Allen Iverson. "My parents were basketball players back to the 1970s," Yao, the first overall pick in the 2002 NBA draft, said at the ceremony in Springfield, Massachusetts.

No clear view ahead for Tiger on PGA Tour return
By Mark Lamport-Stokes (Reuters) – As Tiger Woods prepares for what many pundits believe to be the final chapter of his competitive career, it is fair to say that the crystal ball detailing what lies ahead for him is totally opaque at this point. No one, not even Woods himself, can possibly know how the former world number one will fare should he make his PGA Tour return next month, as he hopes to do, after an absence of more than a year dating back to the 2015 Wyndham Championship. Ongoing back problems led to surgeries in September and again in October and Woods, in the twilight of his career at the age of 40, knows full well that time is not on his side as he strives to get his game back in shape.
