McIlroy to play Memorial, skip Wentworth
World number three Rory McIlroy confirmed Wednesday he'll skip the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth as he tries to stay fresh in a busy season that includes both the Olympics and Ryder Cup. Speaking on his 27th birthday, and on the eve of his title defence at the US PGA Tour's Wells Fargo Championship in Charlotte, North Carolina, McIlroy outlined an upcoming schedule that doesn't include the European Tour's flagship event May 26-29. "The reason that I took three weeks off after Augusta was I'm not going to have more than a week off until after the Ryder Cup," McIlroy said.
