Ex-NFL player Sharper sentenced to up to 8 years in Las Vegas sex assault case
(Reuters) – Former NFL player Darren Sharper was sentenced to up to eight years in prison by a Las Vegas judge on Thursday on a charge of attempted sexual assault, though his lawyer said the sentence would run concurrently with his existing prison stint. Sharper, who retired from the NFL in 2011 after helping lead the New Orleans Saints to a Super Bowl championship, did not appear in court as he is in prison after pleading guilty in a federal Louisiana court to drugging three women and having sex with them while they were incapacitated. Sharper was sentenced on Thursday to 36 months to 96 months, said Clark County Courts spokeswoman Mary Ann Price.

Warriors get wake-up call as Durant era opens with a thud
(Reuters) – When Kevin Durant joined the Golden State Warriors many felt a championship was a mere formality, but a humbling season-opening loss has sent a sudden wakeup call to one of the NBA's most talented teams of all time. Durant had a team-high 27 points in his much anticipated Warriors debut on Tuesday but Golden State stumbled to a 129-100 blowout loss to the visiting San Antonio Spurs that prompted many in the sellout crowd to head for the exits early. It woke us up a bit, and we're looking forward to getting better," four-time scoring champion Durant told reporters.

The Warriors' blockbuster off-season move for Kevin Durant has made the already formidable-looking Dubs an even more daunting proposition as they set out to regain their NBA Finals crown. Kerr, however, said Monday his team of all-stars welcomed the burden of expectation that comes with being able to field a team with Durant, Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green in the line-up.
